The Twittosphere in Denmark is buzzing with a story about TV2’s national morning program, “Good Morning” Danmark, and a segment that aired today on the credibility of Wikipedia. I haven’t yet been able to find TVs version of the story, but the Tweets paint a picture that looks like this:

The basic premise of the story is that the editorial staff made edits to the two hosts’ Wikipedia profiles before the show in order to prove that “you can’t believe everything you read on the net.”  A fair enough premise, but the story seemed to have gotten away from them.

The new “errors” written in by the editorial staff before the show were discovered quickly (in about 4 minutes, according the accounts I have read) and were changed back.  This created some problems for the editorial staff, who had the segment planned.  So what seems to have happened is that a local copy of the page (with the errors) was downloaded and used for the segment.

The story has been dubbed “TV2 WikiGate” and apropos, a wikipedia site has also been started on the “scandal”.  One of the hosts, Anders Breinholt, has a twitter profile @AndersBreinholt - staying tuned for new updates. The other host, Cecile Frøkjær, hasn’t commented on the story.  The hashtag is #tv2wikigate

A good summary of the story, in Danish, is here. There is a little Google translator widget on the blog that can help you get the gist of the story.  Stay tuned…

UPDATE:

Anders Breinholt posted a reply in Wikipedia, saying it was all meant as a joke - signing off with a reference to this Steven Colbert classic on “Wikiality”:
